Colwall Village

Colwall is a large village (over 2,000 inhabitants) with shops, post office, doctors' surgery, pharmacy, library, station and bus service to Malvern or Ledbury and beyond.

Parts of Colwall parish church (St. James the Great) date back to roughly 1189-1377, Next to it, on the edge of the churchyard, is the Church Ale House, a half timbered building dated by dendrochronoloy to 1530. Gatherings at the Church Ale House would have been similar to a Church Fete today but the Puritans disapproved and it eventually became almshouses. It was restored in 1989 and is now an excellent function room.

Colwall is well-known for its schools, the thriving primary school and two preparatory schools, The Downs and The Elms.

A highlight of any visit to Colwall in the autumn must be the spectacular national collection of Michaelmas daisies at Old Court Nursery. Close to Colwall is the small village of Coddington with its beautiful Early English church. Coddington also boasts its own vineyard.
